Department of Dermatology

Lisa Grandinetti Lecture

We hope that you share our pride in the growth of our department as it has developed into one of the top Academic Dermatology centers in the country.  As you know, the Department is deeply committed to its educational mission. To this end, we are proud to announce the inaugural Lisa Grandinetti Lecture as well as the Grandinetti Fund. We hope that you will consider supporting this meaningful initiative and accept our invitation to join us for this lecture.

As many of you know, the Department welcomed Dr. Lisa Grandinetti to our faculty in 2009.  Soon after, she became the Director of the Dermatology Residency Program, and dedicated herself to mentoring and teaching our residents. Lisa truly loved teaching and her role as Program Director, a fact which is clear from the impact she had on our residents who flourished under her leadership. In February of 2015 we lost Lisa after a courageous battle with lung cancer.  A nonsmoker who had been healthy before being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma, she continued to persevere through a devastating diagnosis, keeping office hours and meeting patients in between her own chemotherapy sessions.

We hope that you will join us to honor Lisa’s memory at the second-annual, Dr. Lisa Grandinetti Lecture. In addition to an exceptional talk, we look forward to reconnecting with our former residents and fellows.  Please mark this date on your calendar.  The lecture will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018; we will share the time and location once they are confirmed.

To further Dr. Grandinetti’s passion, we have now established the Grandinetti Fund. We ask that our alumni consider making a charitable gift to the Grandinetti Fund, which will be entirely dedicated to the support of our Department’s trainees. Your gift will go to furthering our mission of excellence in education, a cause that Lisa fully dedicated herself to.

Lisa made a lasting impact on our department.  We are honoring the legacy of our friend, colleague and mentor in a way that reflected her passion to educate others.

Specific information on giving is enclosed. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Alan Friday of the Medical and Health Sciences Foundation at 412-864-5436.  He is our Development Officer and can also be reached by email at fridayaj@upmc.edu.
