Department of Dermatology

Investigative Fellowship

The Department of Dermatology has established a combined investigative/academic residency-training track within the traditional residency program. This program is a unique endeavor in dermatology, and is designed to train future academic dermatologists by providing training in clinical dermatology combined with focused fellowship training in a translational, basic science, epidemiologic, or educational area of interest.

The investigative/academic program is a two plus two program--four years of training subsequent to completion of a PGY1. Specifically, it includes two years of clinical dermatology training that is 100% clinical (PGY 2 and 3), followed by two additional years of research fellowship training (PGY 4 and 5) which includes one and a half days a week of clinical experience, including continuity clinic and ongoing participation in clinical rounds, conferences, and didactic sessions of the clinical residency.

The Department of Dermatology's unique strengths in clinical and basic research present diverse opportunities for qualified trainees to pursue their research interests and further their development as academic dermatologists.
